Why mentoring, why me?

Developing our photography voice can involve group workshops, on line courses, social media interaction, even university courses. But for me nothing comes close to what can be achieved in one to one mentoring. Learning can be faster, more intuitive and certainly more personal.

But firstly it is not so you can take images just like x y or z. It is about supporting you to be you and to create the best images, in your style and your way.

Yes, it can involve looking at, and being inspired by others (there are those who inspire me by their style and insights) but it is about valuing you and helping you be the best photographer you can be

But why me. Well for years before becoming a full time photographer I had been a tutor, trainer and mentor in other areas of my working life. Later when a hobby became my full time work I benefited, yes and still do from my own mentors.

As a photographer I have had a number of exhibitions in Bristol, Bath and Sheffield, provided images for a number of authors book covers, had my work helping set up community photograpghy groups appear in Amateur Photographer, won a number of local photograpghy competitions and am a regular judge at community photograpghy events.

My work has also led me to being a regular tutor at the Bristol Folk House in Bristol where I specialise in Street Photography, Photo Journaling, Starting your own photography business and photography to help with loss.

What can it be?

Well that depends on you but some possibilities:

  1. Starting out. We have all been on or heard of those courses for ‘complete beginners’ that depress us within 10 minutes as jargon is used and we are already lost. Not with me. I remember those days and so, with for beginners I will assume nothing and walk you through from how to power up your camera.
  2. Developing. Perhaps you are further along the path and looking to develop your skills across one or a multiple of genres. I can help with most areas of work and provide developmental feedback on images. Sound what you want, then mentoring is for you.
  3. Identify self. For me identifying my style and staying authentic to what photography is to me was the reason I sought out a mentor. It has changed my work. Together we will challenge assumptions, change the way we see respond to the world, consider projects to help and encourage and liberate you to be yourself, free of others expectations.
  4. I am sure you have your own reasons for considering a mentor, together we can unpack this and move you forward.

But how does it work.

Well, it couldn’t be simpler. First we will have an on line chat, get to know each other and what you want. This helps confirm for you that we are a good fit for this journey. This session is FREE.

After that sessions are as often as you like and the next one is booked at the end of each one.

Held on line (Zoom or Teams) they cost just £50.00 for a 45 – 60 minute session payable via the website Mentoring Link.

Book 6 sessions in advance and pay just £250 with the 6th session free.

At times, it may be possible, subject to where I am working to meet in person and anyone on this programme will be entitled toma discount on all my London based courses.

So, are you ready to start the journey into being the photographer the world needs to see?

"I am being mentored by Adrian Wyatt at Xross Purposes and all I can say is WoW. He makes you really think about your photography. He makes you think about what you are doing, what you want to go on to do and why. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to have a photography mentor."
