Myth, legend, redevelopment and endless opportunities for photography in a variety of genres, the area of Kings Cross has it all.
Originally known as Battle Bridge it led to the tradition that this was the site of s great battle between the Romans and the legendary Boudica. Sadly, the legend she is buried beneath platforms 9 and 10 folklore or myth, but a good one!
Today, Kings Cross, with the adjacent St Pancras is a bust rail hub, but where calm can be found amongst the traffic free oasis that surrounds much of the area.
In our time together we will have the opportunity for some great street photography, and for those with DSLR’s the chance for some slow shutter speed or multiple exposure shots in and around both stations. If using a mobile, the opportunities still abound.
If we are super nice we can head across the road to the famous Renaissance Hotel and its fantastic staircase for some interior shots.
From here we will head to Regents Canal for a slower style of life and photography around the canal boats and water way, taking in, of course, the trendy Coals Drop Yard with its upmarket shops, bars and eateries.
Free street exhibitions stand alongside new architecture before heading to the old Gasworks, now upmarket accommodation seemingly built for photographers. Finally, we can head to one of my favourite tunnels at Kings Cross that has even been used for fashion shows.
All of this will provide us with ample opportunity to:
- Consider composition.
- Which works best colour or black and white?
- Get creative with shutter speeds and depth of field. (Don’t worry if you don’t know you will easily learn.)
- Explore the possibilities in white balance.
- Gain confidence at photography on the street and with people.
- Those using phones to see the power of FREE photo editing apps.
All this with a photographer known for his inclusive, friendly approach, who teaches without jargon, never rushes you and who just loves London.
