Exploring Photography as a way to Well Being

Columbia Road Flower Market

Date: Sunday 19th July 2026
Time: 10.00 – 2.00pm

Tracing a history back over 150 years Columbia Road in the East End of London has been synonymous with markets. Surviving recession, changing cultures and bombs this remains a real East End Market that now operates 8am – 2pm every Sunday.

Selling an array of colourful flowers and plants, the street is also lined with quaint independent shops and some wonderful eateries!

On this workshop we will get the opportunity to:

  • Photograph a real East End tradition.
  • Experience an outdoor market with all the opportunities that offers.
  • Play with composition.
  • Experiment with semi auto to full manual settings.
  • Explore the effectiveness of shutter speed and depth of field on the images we take.
  • Consider metering modes and white balance.
  • Practice Street Photography in an entirely different setting.
  • Experiment with photographing shop windows and food (as well as potentially trying!)
And, at the conclusion of your time here, we can take just the short walk to the vibrancy of Brick Lane with its Street Food, performers, street art and characters. Here we can gain confidence in Street Photography as well as exploring the different styles and techniques of this genre.

NB: Meeting point will be given closer to date.
