Urban Contemplative Photography
Date: 27th August
Time: 12 noon – 3pm
Location: Bear Pit to the back streets of Stokes Croft.
Each day we are being bombarded with sights and sounds, agendas and priorities, yet so rarely make the priority ourselves. And too often when we think of making space for ourselves, we think of the need to travel and get away. Reality often makes this neither viable financially nor in our busy diaries.
Think of Mindful Photography and sitting for hours in one place, often by the sea, in fields or mountain tops can be the idea we have, and again can feel unobtainable.
Adrian however has been practicing Mindful Photography in the inner city for a number of years following a diagnosis of PTSD and issues of self-worth. Reinforced over the times when travel was not possible for any of us, he has used Mindful Photography around the urban areas of his home-town here in Bristol and in the hustle and bustle of London. Recently he has been running lunch time Mindful Photography sessions in the middle of the city for two Bristol development organisations.
Starting in one of his favourite spots used for Street Photography, the Bear Pit at the bottom of Stokes Croft and moving through Stokes Croft and the back streets off the main road our time will include:
- Introducing the concept of photography for well-being and mindful photography.
- Exploring the possibilities for Mindful photography in the inner city.
- Give guidance and techniques for slowing down in our photography and embracing each moment.
- Looking for photographs as we stroll together, beyond the obvious using light and shade, shadows, textures and colours.
- Seeing how our camera settings can help in this process while developing our photography skills.
These few hours are totally suitable for those with no idea what Mindful Photography is but just want some space with their camera. It is available to anyone using a smartphone to tablet to the latest camera and absolutely no photography experience is needed. This is about bringing a sense of calm through photography, not making award winning images.
Please Note: Book any 2 of Adrian’s courses at the same time and get a third £30 – £35 course for free. Just email for details.
Travel: Access to the centre of Bristol is easy by public transport and we start our time 2 mins from the Bristol Bus and Coach Station.
Parking is available nearby at the Galleries Car Park, Cabot Circus Car Park and on the street at Brunswick Square.
